Fed on 5/1, Tuesday.
We were running late to start our morning morel mushrooming with Piz momma and her sister and hubby, so I reached for the quickest meal, even though it’s a repeat of last night’s dinner. Welcome to my life, MP. I eat the same thing for many days.
Well, she ate fast (nothing new) and the humans buckled into the Piz momma mobile and headed out to the woods for some more morels! I got to sit in the middle because my legs are only about four inches long, and no one else wanted to have their knees kicking into their noses. MP didn’t get to come along this time because our plans included an hour+ ride in a full car and a lunch with some other humans.
After lunch at a location-is-everything restaurant, five of us very determined humans hit up two different parks. The first one was FULL of tickslike a panic-inducing amount, with zero morels. I’m not exaggerating when I say FULL OF TICKS in all caps. Every few steps we walked, there were two new ticks on our butts. Half of them were the scary deer/blacklegged ticks, too. *Shudder* It was nuts and totally not worth it on any level. So, off to the second park we went.
We were poking around in a very promising looking area but no one was finding anything. Just as everyone was about to give up, I just squatted Asian style under a dead elm tree and just looked up and down in an imaginary grid. And, poof! There were several morels, right in front of my face! I called out to the gang and we were back in business. Morel morale boost! When we were done, each of us ended up with about this many mushrooms!
Happy humans came back home and it was already dinner time for MP. Three chicken thighs with a side of veggie mix is what she got. We’ll make you a little morel dish soon, MP!
