Repeating meals make me feel kind of guilty. (She had pork last night, too.) Oh well.
This was an awesome portraitist pork steak. I got two meals out of this big ol’ thing. I cut off the fatty fat on the ends and everything. It was on sale, too!
When I don’t have freezer space or a whole pig or whole anything, I’ve found pretty damn good meat sales at Whole Foods. One December, they were selling all their turkey legs and thighs for like a buck a pound. I bought a ton back then and threw them in the freezer. (They were smarter the following year and did not have this crazy sale.) I love my co-op, but they don’t “dump” stuff like meat; they must be much better about stock management.
Anyway, I’m preparing for a post about how I try to make MP food on the cheapish, but I may never get to the cost-per-pound type analysis type level of detail. All I know is that, in the end, it costs less to do this whole thing than to buy decent commercial food. And my ingredients are far, far, far better readers than the bought kind. The caveat is that your time must not have any value at all, and you cannot have a life. Just kidding. I’m worth at least $3/hour and I have two human friends, and one of them is even real.
