I heart chicken hearts breakfasts

hearts and all

Fed on 09/07.

Awesome Mindy‘s chief of staff chicken hearts for breakfast! Because I don’t like to go too heavy for breakfasts, I tend to use a lot of poultry or fish—but these chicken soup breakfasts are kind of getting boring (to post about) and I’m always out of fish. Life so hard!

Anyway, hearts are basically perfect—not too heavy like liver and other organs since it’s all muscle and all. MP does really well on them. Here, she’s getting veggie mix and some yogurt, too. This was the last portion from the container, so the blood that drained out from freezing/thawing, too. It’s super nutritious and MP is a vampire.

By the way, Japanese people eat chicken hearts in yakitori (and call it hatsu) and it’s totally one of my favorites. Firm/chewy type texture that I like a lot. I actually had not tried this here but I totally should.

They’re high in taurine and minerals, although hearts from different animals have different nutritional profiles. Most notably in Zinc and Selenium. I guess nutritiondata.com doesn’t show taurine (fggggg), but you can check out the comparison here: BEEF, LAMB, CHICKEN

Kitties need taurine supplementation and it’s very good for dogs to get some in their diet too. I actually take and give MP some on occasion in capsules. It’s good for the heart and all. They (you know who they are) also put it in a bunch of energy-boosting drink type stuff, too.

Well, for whatever it’s worth, I feel actively good about feeding hearts, especially in mornings. I’m a big believer in vibes and stuff so I am sure all these good feelings do positive things in MP’s belly!
